Core Values of the Reno Huskies Football Program:

EXCELLENCE

Excellence is the overriding core value that will be reinforced to our athletes. “Excellence” reminds each one of us that there is always room for improvement and growth. Every day there is an opportunity to improve 1% in some aspect of our lives... in the classroom, in the weight room, on the field, on the job as a family member or as a friend. We always have opportunities to improve our character, our integrity, our work ethic or our competitiveness. Our time together in the football program provides boundless opportunities to pursue excellence in every aspect of our lives that will ultimately help each one of us develop into the best person we can be.

JOY

Football is in its most simple form is a GAME. Some of our fondest memories growing up include the joy and happiness we experienced playing the sports we loved. Sometimes along the way, this joy has been misplaced, lost or even forgotten. We have a responsibility to teach that great joy can come from doing the things we love. We also have a responsibility to teach that “joy” can be found in embracing the grind that comes in being a student-athlete and finding the resilience and perseverance needed to finish the commitment we make to our fellow teammates and coaches on the team. As coaches, we are truly blessed to pass this message on to our players… and if we do it well, really well, our players will find great joy in the daily and weekly pursuit of being a high school football player at Reno High.

GRIT

Success in life requires GRIT, physical and mental toughness, and so does the game of football. What a blessing to share this message with our athletes every day because life requires “GRIT” long after the game of football and other sports have ended. Through the development of physical and mental toughness (GRIT) in the game of football, it is our hope that our athletes can display a “relentless” effort each and every day and a “resilient” attitude that demonstrates their ability to overcome setbacks and obstacles in football and in life.

MORAL COURAGE

Athletics provide a platform to teach leadership qualities and to develop leaders. All too often, student-athletes are viewed as leaders for the wrong reasons. Instead, we have an opportunity to share and teach the concept of “moral courage” to our athletes. Moral courage is defined by Joe Ehrmann as doing what you believe is rights even if others disagree; doing what is morally right even in the face of criticism, ridicule and rejection. I believe that in our efforts to teach and reinforce the concept of moral courage, we have an opportunity to develop boys to young men that can become outstanding citizens and leaders in the future.
